Spider-Man has appeared in some unexpected places over the years. His latest Middle East appearance took the superhero to a much bigger stage.

Ahead of the cinema release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the character appeared across three of the region's best-known landmarks. The campaign used large-scale projections on Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Kingdom Centre in Riyadh and Cairo Tower in Egypt.

Each building became part of the creative. Instead of placing the film on a conventional advertising surface, the campaign used the architecture and scale of the landmarks to create a regional spectacle.

The activation was designed to build excitement ahead of the film's 30 July cinema release.

Three Cities Join One Spider-Man Campaign

Dubai, Riyadh and Cairo are very different cities. The campaign connected them through one recognisable character and a consistent idea.

Using three landmarks also gave the activation a regional feel. Audiences in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt could see their own city become part of the promotion.

Burj Khalifa Brings Spider-Man to Dubai

Burj Khalifa provided the UAE setting for the activation.

The tower's scale gave the Spider-Man visuals an enormous canvas in the heart of Downtown Dubai. The character appeared across the building, bringing the fictional superhero into one of the city's most familiar real-world settings.

Dubai has previously hosted Spider-Man promotions at Burj Khalifa. In December 2021, a trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home was projected onto the tower ahead of the film's regional release.

The latest campaign continues that connection between major entertainment releases and Dubai's skyline.

Kingdom Centre Takes the Campaign to Riyadh

The next location was Kingdom Centre in Riyadh.

Its distinctive architecture gave the campaign another instantly recognisable setting. Spider-Man's appearance on the building allowed the promotion to become part of the Saudi capital's cityscape.

For a film campaign spanning several markets, using a well-known local landmark gives audiences an immediate point of recognition.

Cairo Tower Completes the Regional Activation

Cairo Tower provided the third location.

Its prominent position in the Egyptian capital gave Spider-Man another large urban surface while completing the campaign's presence across three major Middle Eastern markets.

Together, the three sites created one connected launch across Cairo, Riyadh and Dubai.

Why Famous Landmarks Attract Attention

A landmark already has public recognition before a campaign arrives.

People know the building. Many see it regularly. Visitors often photograph it.

Adding an unexpected creative element can change the way people experience a familiar place.

Several features helped this activation attract attention:

  • Three highly recognisable regional locations
  • A globally familiar entertainment character
  • Large-scale projections designed to be seen from a distance
  • A coordinated launch across multiple countries
  • Visuals that people could easily photograph and share

The campaign therefore had opportunities to reach people beyond those standing near each building. Images and videos could continue circulating through social media and entertainment coverage after the physical activation ended.

What Advertisers Can Learn from the Campaign

Most brands will never need to place a superhero across Burj Khalifa. The thinking behind the campaign still offers useful lessons.

Make the Location Relevant

A strong location can contribute to the idea rather than simply hold an advert. The three towers were selected for their visibility and recognisable architecture.

Keep the Idea Easy to Understand

Spider-Man appearing on a skyscraper requires very little explanation.

For Billboard advertising, the same principle is useful. People may have only a few seconds to understand what they see, so the central idea needs to be clear.

Give People Something Worth Sharing

Outdoor campaigns can travel further when people choose to photograph them.

That does not always require advanced technology. An unusual visual, clever use of location or unexpected creative idea can encourage attention.
